  1. How do you say that? / Is that how you say it?

    Ee’oh’list – think E-O-list

  2. What does it mean?

It’s based off of the ancient Greek word Aeolus (who was the god of wind) and it means “a pompous, windy bore who fakes/pretends to have inspiration.

Designers are typically perceived as having huge egos – thinking that they and their ideas are so awesome.

We are not pompous bores who pretend to have inspiration – so once we discovered this word and drew the relation to designers, we thought it was hilarious and it has stuck ever since. There are a number of reasons why the name works so well for us…It keeps a light-hearted spirit about the studio and serves as a reminder to never take ourselves too seriously.

  3. How are things going?

All of our friends always ask when they see us “So how are the bags?” and so we would like to tell you that since we started playing around with things about 2 ½ – 3 years ago, we have experienced growth! It’s exciting…and we have slowly started to gain some wholesale and consignments accounts, as well as expand into other areas of the design and art worlds such as letterpress, book making, web design, etc. We are even proud to say that one of our Green Bean clutches, Cocoa Bean, has found a home in Verdant Works Jute Museum in Dundee, Scotland!

  10. What are your care instructions for _____ item?

For our Green Bean line we ask that you recognize that you are purchasing a delicate product and to handle it with care and do not over stuff you product – as with most things, overstuffing will lead to a shorter product life. We suggest spot cleaning if need be and hang dry.

For our Skin Line we suggest spot cleaning as needed and hang/air dry

For cotton zippered pouches and bag with no chains or frames we suggest hand washing and machine or air dry – for framed clutches we suggest spot cleaning and air dry

  13. What inspired the start of Aeolist Design?

We are doing this because we love design, and creativity and we love to learn how to do things and we want to share those things with the world – we want to give people awesome, quirky, unique items to cherish and show off and we want to make people feel good. We have almost insatiable appetites for all things creative and Aeolist is our creative outlet.

  14. What other services do you offer? / What do you do?

We have our hands in a lot of pots…we dabble in accessories, bags, housewares in the forms of pillows and placemats, and we are now getting more into printing via letterpress and silk screen…our backgrounds in Architecture and Design have pushed us to expand into 3d and Graphic Visualization for projects, interior consultations and even web design.

  15. Why do you love aeolist? / What’s your favorite part about aeolist?

  16. What’s up with the weird guy?

The Aeolist is a mascot for us – we wanted something that looked so pompous and cocky and smug. He’s there to tell/remind you that you are/to be awesome.

  17. What do you do to give back? Do you support any local/national charities or events?

We currently donate a portion of each purchase of our Skin products to MSKCC (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center) to aid in cancer research and care. We host our website through a source that is powered mainly by wind power… and we are always looking for more ways to improve the quality of life around us…
